Rose Growing Tips
This is the time of year when we should begin to prepare
for our fall blooms. What I try to do is to dead-head as
usual but taking time to go back another
couple of cuts. I do not attempt to cut all at once so my
blooms will be thru-out the fall season. As far as spraying
goes, I continue on my weekly or bi-weekly program that
we have done for the past 7 months. I always use a ystemic
and a topical fungicide in my spray mix. I also do not use
insecticides till needed or right before a show when my
buds are starting to show color. As the bush starts
putting out growth from our cuts, I also add some liquid
fertilizer to my water system. I use 1 tablespoonful of
Peters, 1 tablespoonful of Fish Emulsion, 1
tablespoonful of Chelated Iron per bush. I will do this
2 or 3 times but I only use the iron the first time. The
cats in the neighborhood will love you. Keep it simple and
fun. REMEMBER to share your roses with the local merchants
you do business with, friends, and neighbors. I had a new
client in my office the other day and she told me that she
had only received roses on 3 occasions. She was 60+ years
and I didn't have any. You can be assured that I will be
the 4th when my fall blooms appear.
